BJP suspends Kirti for taking on Arun Jaitley
The former cricketer rejected that he conspired with the opposition in attacking senior party leaders like Arun Jaitley and said it is the opposition which has picked up the issues raised by him.
According to reports, Senor BJP leader L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Shanta Kumar and Yashwant Sinha who are a part of BJP’s margdarshak mandal will meet Azad a day after he was suspended.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while the Congress demanded his resignation and the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to look into the dealings of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). That is why I highlighted the corruption going on since the last nine years (in DDCA).
Asked about his future programme, a visibly defiant Azad said: “See, what happens now”.
Suspended from his party, cricketer-turned-politician, Kirti Azad responded with a warning: “Just watch what happens next…”
In a statement, the party said Azad had been suspended with immediate effect for “anti-party activities”.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, too, backed Azad and has chose to help him file a response to the suspension order.
“Thus, I wish that Narendra Modiji intervenes in this issue, goes deeper in it, and then tells me about what I have done wrong, as I need specific answers”, Azad told reporters here. Emerging from the meeting, Kumar said, “We keep meeting over tea and nothing specific was discussed”, but interestingly added, “it’s unfortunate that politics has come down to allegations and counter-allegations”.
BJP, however, downplayed the meeting of veterans, insisting that the party has always “welcomed” their suggestions and credited their past efforts for its successes.
The sources said the veterans were of the perspective the Bharatiya Janata Party administration did not take after the correct strategy while acting against Azad, a three-time Lok Sabha part from Bihar and child of previous Bihar CM Bhagwat Jha Azad. Azad also said that he will file a PIL in his individual capacity over the DDCA issue soon.
Confirming the development, DDCA Joint Secretary Dinesh Sharma said the Joint Secretary would sit on December 26 to take a decision over Azad’s membership to the DDCA.
