BJP to Corner Congress on Rahul Citizenship Issue in Winter Session

Rahul Gandhi has never held a non-Indian passport and never been on non-Indian citizenship, Congress said today virtually challenging the government to disprove it in the wake of BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy’s charges against its vice president. When and where did I raise this issue?

Asked if the poll outcome would hasten the elevation of Rahul Gandhi as party President, Mr Pilot said its timing depends on the Congress Working Committee, party President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul himself.

Latching on to Swamy’s allegation, the BJP demanded that Gandhi should come clean as the explanation given by Congress was not convincing.

Swamy, who yesterday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had released documents purportedly showing that Gandhi had claimed himself to be a British national before the company law authorities there for setting up a company.

Rahul is learnt to have spoken highly about the contributions made by senior leaders A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, among others.

“Swamy’s attempts must be dismissed with the contempt they deserve because they are nothing but a bunch of falsehood”, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said at the AICC briefing.
