BJP UP Vice President Dayashankar Singh Fired; Compares Mayawati to a Prostitute
Arch rival Samajwadi Party, which can not see eye to eye with the BSP, however, has sided with Mayawati on the issue of women’s dignity and Dalit honour, at least publicly, and said that the former BJP leader would be brought to book. If any of the party leaders dares go for such remark in future we would have the state paralysed. “Mayawati ji is an iron lady of BSP, using such derogatory remarks can not be tolerated”, she said. Since early morning party workers from different districts converged at the Ambedkar statue at the Hazratganj crossing on the call of the party to stage dharna against Singh. The BSP’s campaign has suddenly picked up after seeming dormant, in the wake of an aggressive BJP and party President Amit Shah who has been energetically travelling across the state to prepare the party organisation for the polls.
Singh had said that “Mayawati is breaking the dream of Kanshi Ram into pieces”.
That the remarks against Mayawati had triggered a massive outrage among Dalits and also galvanised the BSP workers was evident on the streets of the state capital on Thursday, when they turned out in large numbers to register their protest. “Mayawati is selling tickets like a [expletive]”, Dayashankar Singh told reporters in Mau, Uttar Pradesh.
Leader of the House Arun Jaitley got up to offer regret on behalf of the party and said the remarks were highly condemnable. Following this, Dayashankar expressed regret. “It was a general punishment to control the damage”, the BSP leader said.
“It is not right and I condemn the use of such words”.
The comments, Mayawati said, came because the BJP is frustrated by the lead her party is making in Uttar Pradesh. “I associate our dignity with yours and stand with you”, Jaitley said in Rajya Sabha. Pointing to the treasury benches, she said that “mere lip service won’t do and the person who has made the statement should be made an example of”.
Women members, including Renuka Chaudhary, Kumari Selja and others, demanded strict action against Dayashankar.
“It is sad to say in this long period after adoption of the Constitution, we have witnessed various atrocities, be in Congress or BJP-ruled states”, she said.
He asked them to use dignified language when talking about the working style of opposition party leaders.
