Black Lives Matter protesters block ME road
There’s been a renewed debate over the Black Lives Matter movement amid the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and multiple police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
It is time to UNDERSTAND that the Black Lives Matter Movement is not about HATE. We as a people of color raise our fist to uplift our brothers and sisters who have been degraded for hundreds of years as a race of Black People TAKEN without our will, from our home known as the Motherland of Africa.
Almost 100 demonstrators marched silently through downtown Waynesboro Sunday in a call for unity in the face of recent racial strife between the black community and law enforcement.
“I’m out here in support of the movement”.
“It’s not about black and white or any other color it’s about all lives matter and everybody respecting that”, said Kerry Finnery, a Black Lives Matter supporter.
People submitted comment cards read aloud by Rev. Reginald Walton, which helped to hash out concerns over transparency and racism within the police department.
The former husband of singer Mariah Carey stood in front of banners and posters calling for justice and an end to shootings of black men by police. Now, they know that every one of them has a target on their backs, yet they still go out and try to protect us. Both attacks have come amid renewed tensions between police and the black community. He traveled to the site of the Republican National Convention as part of the Prophets of Rage music group, which features Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, DJ Lord and rapper B-Real from Cypress Hill.
People at the protest said they’re looking to future and want positive conversations to continue. “And from a standpoint of honor, I think he should show up”.
She said she hopes the demonstration will bring about “some kind of change” and that police officers become more involved with the community and vice versa.
“It’s really given us a catalyst to move forward”, Johnson says. “Why don’t we just kill all the shit and say we all matter”, he continued.
“Everybody has the right to protest, I don’t believe this is going to be out of hand or anything like that”, Captain Kirkwood said. “As long as it stays peaceful, there is no problem”.
