Black Lives Matter protesters interrupt Hillary Clinton at private event
Namely the “Super Predator” comments from 1996, where she said that we “need to bring them to heel” speaking of black youth in gangs.
“We want you to apologize for mass incarceration”, Williams says to Clinton. Williams was reportedly removed from the event by the Secret Service. Ms. Williams told the Huffington Post she paid $500 to attend Wednesday night’s fundraiser.
In contrast, this action confronted Clinton directly with her own past words and actions and demanded a reckoning, which she refused to provide. “We did this because we wanted to make sure that black people are paying attention to her record, and we want to know what Hillary we are getting”.
Below, is the statement made by Hillary Clinton in 1994 about “superpredators”.
‘You’re being rude, ‘ one attendee told Williams. The bill has since been widely denounced for contributing to the mass incarceration of black men.
CLINTON: Do you want to hear the facts or do you just want to talk? “I’m not a super-predator”. ‘They are often the kinds of kids that are called “super-predators”.
“I’m not a Superpredator, Hillary Clinton”, Williams answered, repeating a word Clinton used in a 1996 speech to describe kids with “no conscience, no empathy” who committed crimes.
Williams was confronted by Clinton, at which point Williams requested an apology from Clinton for the support that she gave to the criminal justice reforms implemented by former President Clinton.
“Nobody’s ever asked me before”. You’re the first person to ask me and I am happy to address it.
Recent polling suggests Clinton is up big in SC over Bernie Sanders ahead of this Saturday’s Democratic presidential primary, in large part because she’s particularly popular with black voters.
Williams continues talking, however, and asks, ‘Can you apologize to black people for mass incarceration?’
Two years before, the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act was signed into law by her husband, President Clinton during a time when drug-related violent crime was a huge problem in America’s cities due to gang wars primarily over cocaine.
Could it also be that because Clinton has failed to take a single question from her traveling press crew for months on end that questions like this never get a chance to be addressed? The woman then interrupted Clinton again to say she’d referred to black people as “super-predators”, and the jeering from Clinton supporters grew in earnest.
The encounter was not Clinton’s first with Black Lives Matter activists. On one hand, there was the previous confrontation between her and Black Lives Matter activists at a rally in Atlanta, but on the other, she has already received an endorsement from the Congressional Black Caucus.
