Black Sabbath bowing out with final hometown gig
The last leg of the band’s farewell tour, appropriately titled The End Tour, will begin in January.
Black Sabbath have revealed the dates for their final ever tour, which will end at the band’s Birmingham home town in February 2017. The Black Sabbath at Download montage will then be used to develop an online archive and later into an official exhibition, to commemorate this vital day in heavy metal history.
The classic Sabbath line-up of Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward originally formed in Birmingham in 1968.
Black Sabbath have been on their final tour for over a year now, but, it looks as if “The End” is drawing near. “It would be nice to think it could finish where it all started, in Birmingham”.
Iommi overcame lymphoma in 2013 and said in March the band was no longer capable of playing long tours.
As Loudwire reports, Sabbath’s final United States performances will take place on November 8, 10 and 12 in Tulsa, Okla.; Houston and San Antonio, respectively. Black Sabbath additionally has been handing out a new 8-track album that is only available to those who attend the tour.
The final US date is significant as San Antonio is the site of one of Ozzy’s most headline-grabbing moments – the rocker was arrested for public intoxication and urination after he was caught relieving himself on The Alamo cenotaph in the Texas city in 1982.
The Tulsa, Houston and San Antonio stops will be the band’s last performances ever in the United States.
