Blackadder new series possibly on the cards
Blackadder could be making a return to screens after 26 years, according to Tony Robinson.
“I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now”, he said.
He teased: “The only problem is Hugh’s fee”.
However, as Laurie’s cooperation seems to be the only factor holding a Blackadder reunion back, he may be willing to reconsider a comeback for the sake of his costars being willing to give it a try, for nostalgia’s sake – exorbitant fees or not.
Blackadder himself, Rowan Atkinson, went on to create and star in the super popular Mr Bean series, whilst Robinson went on to present Time Team and Stephen Fry, who played Lord Melchett, is now the host of QI. “It’s a big danger”, he said. Hes a huge star now or so hed like to think.
But Laurie is believed to have received about $500,000 an episode for the show House (2004-12) when it was at its peak, starring as the unconventional and misanthropic medical genius Dr Gregory House.
“So do I miss comedy?”, he said in an interview to publicise his new Channel 4 show Time Crashers.
But he warned: ‘Expectations for a new series will be high because people not only remember the original, they remember who they were when it was on. “I don’t know. Journalists often ask if there’s going to be another series of Blackadder, and how does anyone know that?”
Richard Curtis and Ben Elton’s classic historical sitcom originally ran for four series between 1983 and 1989, though the cast reunited in 1999 for a one-off special called Blackadder: Back And Forth that was first shown at the Millennium Dome.
