BlackBerry (BBRY) Stock Soars, Priv Sold Out at Wal-Mart
Now that the Priv seems to be doing well, BlackBerry might have a chance to keep going. The Priv is the companys first device to run on Google Inc.s Android operating system, increasing its appeal to customers who demand popular smartphone applications that arent available on BlackBerrys own system.
Currently, only AT&T officially carries the Blackberry Priv, but T-Mobile is working a deal to carry the phone in the Android smartphone in the near future.
The unlocked version of the phone only lasted 24 hours in stores and online, where the Walmart website notes that the device is sold out and consumers can register an email address if they want info on when it’s back in stock. Among the Blackberry Priv’s added security features is DTEK, which tracks the apps and services accessing your personal information and gives you reports on your smartphone’s security.
“It is nearly as if BlackBerry walked into the dealership and ticked every possible box, even some that are barely compatible, and then went on to request a completely different engine”, GSMarena said on their review of the smartphone. See the hardware specs provided by Blackberry below. BlackBerry began shipping its Priv Android smartphone in early November.
Platform: Android Lollipop 5.1.1.
The success of the Priv will be important for Blackberry, which has faced a continued struggle in smartphone sales. As per BlackBerry’s Q3 earnings report, the company saw a 50% YoY decrease in smartphone shipments.
While BlackBerry’s PRIV will end up mostly in executive hands and a small group of loyal BlackBerry fans, the smartphone stands for both privilege and privacy, making it the core business of the company. Buying a BlackBerry PRIV directly from the company’s website is your best option in getting it now.
