BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition Officially Announced
The Silver Edition of Passport is not the only device that attests to BlackBerry’s inability to kick its smartphone habit.
The new BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition looks like a nice improvement over the standard Passport, combining the rounded corners of the AT&T version with a more durable frame and a keyboard that’s apparently been improved.
As reported earlier, the Passport Silver will be very similar to the BlackBerry Passport.
If you are afraid of the original Passport’s sharp corners, the Silver Edition version could be the right choice for you. This does not mean the model will appear in the U.S., as for now there is no information on where it will be available. This could indicate that the handset will be around anytime soon. Still lots to learn about the Silver Edition Passport and hopefully, we won’t be waiting much longer.
The phone, which is the size of a US or EU passport, grabbed headlines at launch, not just for its unusual square-screen (1440×1440) design, but for including an innovative capacitive physical keyboard that doubles up as a trackpad: it accepts gestures for scrolling, swiping and text editing.
However, it seems safe to assume the Silver Edition will be nearly entirely the same as the original Passport internally, so fans can expect a 4.5-inch display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. A few days ago, the first pictures of the BlackBerry “Venice” were leaked online. The phone will also be equipped with a 13 MP primary camera, similar to its name-sake predecessor. The listing is still there, but the device’s specs have since been taken down, but not without the biggest BlackBerry aficionados taking screenshots of them. Last month, Android Community reported that BlackBerry acquired two Android-related domains, AndroidSecured.com and AndroidSecured.net, as of July 7.
