BlackBerry Priv to go down in history as pivotal release
The new CEO of the company has been working hard in the past year to get the BlackBerry smartphone division back into the game. However, Chen firmly believes that the company would be able to revive and the latest step for the turnaround is its upcoming Priv smartphone that breaks away from the norm and runs Android along with a few BlackBerry apps.
The much rumored BlackBerry Priv Android smartphone has been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), indicating that its launch could be just around the corner.
In order to give a fillip to the sales, the company will launch first Android phone BlackBerry Priv towards the end of this year. As per these leaks, the display of PRIV has a subtle curve to it on the sides.
The BlackBerry 10 OS never really took off and the company has confirmed that it will indeed be making an Android smartphone called BlackBerry Priv. The Reddit user said this about the Priv: “I’m definitely interested in BlackBerry again”. This was followed by live images of the BlackBerry Priv surfacing online, showing off the handset’s sliding keyboard. If it fails to do so, the company will quit the handsets business. Although companies can change anything at the last moment, these specs are the most plausible ones to be part of the handset.
In addition, it is also been revealed, via a few hands-on images shared online, that the BlackBerry PRIV will feature the Snapdragon 808 processor; and will come with 3GB of RAM, and an 18-megapixel rear camera capable of recording 4K video.
John Chen is confident about the BlackBerry Priv release, but he also warns that if the handset doesn’t sell at least 5 million units, then it’s all over.
The report is based on an interaction with BlackBerry CEO John Chen who told The Verge about the 5 million target and also hinted that in case they miss this mark, they may “exit the handset business altogether”.
