Blade Runner 2 Gets a Release Date
Principal photography will begin in July of this year.
Official Blade Runner 2 plot to be announced soon.
Notably, the press release never refers to the film as Blade Runner 2, which means that we’ll be hearing a new title announced soon enough.
Then again, so much of what made Blade Runner special was its lack of studio logic.
Variety reports the untitled Blade Runner sequel will be released on January 12th, 2018 by Warner Bros.; a year and change short of the November, 2019 timeframe in which the original film took place.
Now that Han Solo has fallen on hard times (oops, was that a spoiler?), Harrison Ford’s schedule has been freed up to reprise his other iconic role as Rick Deckard in the long-awaited sequel to “Blade Runner”.
Screenplay writer Hampton Fincher, who adapted Phillip K. Dick’s novel, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” into the first “Blade Runner”, collaborated on the sequel’s script with Michael Green.
Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all overseas territories in all media. Multi-Oscar nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins, who worked with Villeneuve on Prisoners and Sicario, is lensing. At one stage it looked as if Ridley Scott would return to direct it, too. The project is produced by Alcon Entertainment, with the company’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson serving as producers.
