Blair Walsh’s field goal miss a real kick in the gut
The good news for Blair Walsh is that he’s not alone.
In a unusual sort of way, this is good news to Peterson’s teammates. “A lot of those times, guys make those kicks”.
“We need to make those kicks and we’re paid to do that”. I feel for the guy. “But when he went back to his locker and sat down, he just didn’t feel it. He didn’t feel like he could go, and that’s it. He just didn’t feel like he had it. There wasn’t enough time to build the confidence that he needed to come in and do something”.
Hopkins said the way the laces face matters because the ball can move in a different direction if it hits the wrong part of the foot. And for much of the game, victory over the two-time defending NFC champion Seahawks appeared within reach. Buffalo released Norwood after that season and he retired to his home state of Virginia. So for whatever reason they sped up their mechanism, Sherm couldn’t have been closer (on the third field goal), we can’t figure out how he didn’t get it. So they went quite a bit faster.
The problem was, he picked a poor time for his first miss in about two years. Blair Walsh is done warming up, and the field goal unit heads onto the field for an all-but-routine 27 yard attempt.
They had led through the first three quarters of the game, though would cede advantage in the fourth.
The 88-year-old Grant got a roar of approval from the crowd, most of which was dressed in as many layers as those purple replica jerseys would allow.
But upon seeing the replay of Walsh’s shank, the four-time Pro Bowler immediately empathized with his Minnesota counterpart. Had he scrambled, he could have picked up a few yards and given the Vikings a chance to kick a game-winning field goal.
NBC said Monday that Seattle’s 10-9 victory in frigid conditions averaged 35.3 million viewers, up 25 percent from the 28.3 million for last year’s Bengals-Colts matchup in the same slot.
Peyton Manning worked Indianapolis into Pittsburgh territory, setting up a 46-yard attempt for Vanderjagt, at that point the most accurate kicker in National Football League history.
Favre had Minnesota on the Saints’ 38-yard line with 19 seconds remaining and the game tied when he rolled to his right on a passing play. “We’re going to take care of him”.
The postseason was never his strong suit, though, a trend that began when he missed a 40-yarder against the Jets in 2005. Seattle’s season seemed done and dusted when the Vikings lined up for a chip-shot 27-yard field goal with 26 seconds to play in the game. “These same idiots who want to sit there and remind me of my one miss don’t know and probably don’t think of everything in the big picture but I’ve not missed a field goal in the playoffs since”.
Blair Walsh blew it for the Minnesota Vikings. That led Carroll to believe it was entirely possible that Walsh could miss even from point-blank range, so that’s what Seattle played for. Zimmer has occasionally prodded him to be more assertive, and Bridgewater said he’ll keep working on that.
The Vikings (11-6) took the ball for the deciding drive with 1:42 left at their 39 and, aided by a pass interference penalty on Kam Chancellor, drove deep into Seattle’s territory.
