Blake Griffin Injury: Updates on Clippers Star’s Quad and Return

The two players really shined in the second half as Redick scored 20 of his 25 points while Pierce scored 16 of his 20.

Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin is out indefinitely with a partially torn left quadriceps. He did not travel with the team to Utah for its game and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The team announced the injury before Saturday’s game, saying it occurred in the Clippers’ win over the Lakers on Christmas night.

Bryant leads the voting despite struggling through the beginning of the season, averaging 17.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 30.5 minutes per game and shooting just 34.4 percent from the field for the 5-25 Lakers. Rookie D’Angelo Russell followed an 18-point effort in Wednesday’s 120-85 loss to Oklahoma City with 16 against the Clippers, while second-year forward Julius Randle scored 11 fourth-quarter points to lead Friday’s rally attempt.

Mike Conley scored 19 points, Jeff Green added 17 and the Memphis Grizzlies led from start to finish for a 112-96 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The duo actually got better from deep as they game went on, combining to go 10-for-14 from the floor and 9-for-11 from 3-point range in the second half. The Clippers finally charged ahead 72-64 later in the quarter when Redick buried three consecutive 3-pointers to cap off a 14-0 run for Los Angeles. The Clippers trailed by eight points after the first quarter and by as many as 11 in the second quarter, but the Clippers managed to cut the deficit down to five at halftime and led by two after getting hot from deep in the third quarter.

Things looked better, in part, because Utah couldn’t counter with Rudy Gobert or Derrick Favors, making the Clippers pay for going small.

“I thought it was a good team victory”, Memphis coach Dave Joerger said.

The issue ultimately didn’t damage the Clippers’ playoff standing, but Griffin is obviously one of the team’s two most important players. He may have finished the game with jut 12 points, but he is averaging 19.4 points per game in his last ten contests, according to ESPN.

“You’re not going to replace Blake – and no one is – so everyone has to pitch in”, Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. Those four games take place on the road before the Clippers return home to play the Philadelphia 76ers on January 2. Jordan as well in 1998 when he was speculated to retire before the end of that season.

Clippers: Pierce started in the second half after coming off the bench in the first half. Last season, Griffin missed 15 games due to a surgery to remove a staph infection in his right elbow.

“We just wanted to win”, Gasol said, later adding: “We just want to be more consistent, try to play a whole game of good basketball”.
