Blake Griffin Suffered Hand Injury In Altercation With Clippers Staffer
Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin, left, sits on the bench with assistant coach Sam Cassell, right, during the second half of an NBA basketball game, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, in Los Angeles.
That all went out the window last night, though, when ESPN’s Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne reported that Griffin flew back to L.A. after apparently breaking his right hand during a mysterious team-related incident.
According to Michael Eaves, the altercation started in a restaurant and then proceeded outside where Griffin hit the equipment staffer multiple times.
Griffin reportedly suffered the injury in an “undisclosed team-related incident” and there isn’t much more information about his hand.
Griffin has been out since December 26 with a quad injury, and will surely miss more time if his hand is indeed broken. Reports are now indicating that the reason for the hand injury is probably why the Clippers were trying to keep it under the radar. Griffin, who has been out with a quadriceps injury, originally hoped to return to the lineup during this road trip.
Griffin also is scheduled to be honored by OU with a jersey ceremony during the Sooners’ home game against Baylor on March 1.
Griffin is averaging 23.2 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, and 5.0 assists per game this season.
The Clippers announced Monday that Griffin was returning to Los Angeles without disclosing the injury.
