Blaney wins Xfinity race
He gets his next chance to cut into Buescher’s points advantage in Saturday’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 at Kentucky Speedway (8 p.m. ET on NBCSN).
It would take a good push from the No. 7 Chevrolet and some drama on the green-white-checkered restart, but Blaney would prove up to the task. He would pull away from Ty Dillon and capture the victory at Kentucky Speedway. It was his fourth-career series win and his second at the Kentucky oval. “Earlier this season, we weren’t fortunate enough to even be in this position”. “There’s a lot riding on this race, and I’m sure the fans will really enjoy watching”. “It hurts for my team, knowing that we were that close to winning this thing”. Who can get a big push. “We’re trending in the right direction”. I knew once we were clear we had a really good shot at it.
On a restart with 88 laps to go, Scott and Wallace made door-to-door contact. The rest of the top six in the standings consists of Smith, Wallace Jr. and Elliott Sadler who finished this week’s race just outside the top ten in 11th place.
Just before the halfway point of the race, Brennan Poole spun in Turn 1, collecting Harrison Rhodes and spewing liquid from Poole’s vehicle, putting the field under the red flag for cleanup. The Welcome, North Carolina native took the lead from Blaney on a restart with eight laps remaining and appeared to be cruising to a victory when the caution flag fell for Jeremy Clements’ spin with four to go. After the incident, McClure was transported to a local hospital. We had really good speed here in the Monster Energy Camry, just didn’t work out at the end of the day.
Erik Jones finished eighth, and Scott was 13th. Matt Tifft rounded out the top-10 in his Xfinity Series debut.
