Blizzard Are Going To Consider StarCraft 3 And Warcraft 4 Soon
Blizzard game director Dustin Browder says a Warcraft 3-style hero-focused story mode could come to the game in the future, though it’s not now in the works.
Speaking to IGN at Gamescom 2015, Tim Morten, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void’s lead producer, casually hinted at the possibility of a new Warcraft – we’re talking Warcraft 4 ladies and gents.
“This isn’t the end of StarCraft, but it’s the end of this story for these characters”, he told the site. “Anything is possible [but] we don’t have any specific plans”.
As for what comes next for Blizzard’s RTS team after finishing Starcraft 2?
We’ll keep you guys posted. Anything is possible. The fact they’re considering Warcraft after the 2016 release of the Void pack should be music to the ears of fans who have longed for a follow-up to the 2002 release of Warcraft 3.
It’s interesting to think that Blizzard is reevaluating what to do with their IP.
Fans have been crying for Blizzard to take Warcraft back to its RTS roots for years, especially given how top-notch Warcraft 3 was. But what impact will World of Warcraft have on Warcraft IV’s lore?
Since then, the player base has been continuously declining, only briefly rebounding when new expansions have been released. Blizzard could even go a step farther and attempt to succeed where games like Savage 2 failed, blending RPG combat with RTS tactics through the combination of both games. This sounds like one of those things that’s more likely to happen if a lot of people politely suggest that another Warcraft RTS would be lovely, ta.
Blizzard is set to wrap-up the StarCraft II trilogy with the upcoming Legacy of the Void Expansion.
