A total lunar eclipse sometimes is menacingly referred to as a blood moon. He said astronomers call the series a lunar eclipse tetrad.
“There’s light that is refracted through the atmosphere of the earth, kind of bent a little bit and so it gets a little reddish and eliminates part of the moon slightly”.
And thankfully, some people were able to see the amusing side of the rare event that won’t happen for another 33 years. The previous three occurred on April 15th and October. 8th of 2014, and the third happened on April 4th.
“The lunar eclipse can be seen across the whole of Africa”, Jooste said. It has occurred in order on Passover, Tabernacles, Passover and will fall again on the evening of Tabernacles.
US pastor John Hagee – authour of the book Four Blood Moons: Something is about to Change – believes Sunday’s eclipse has biblical significance based on scripture passages such as Chapter 2, Verse 31 of the Book of Joel: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the bad day of the Lord come”. The eclipse should be visible from anywhere in the United States.
“At MTSU, the observatory on campus will be open from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.”, Higgins said.
In case of cloudy skies, the eclipse can be viewed live on NASA’s web site.
