Bloomberg’s Halperin: Clinton May Have To Apologize For Using 9/11 To Justify
Hillary Clinton drew a sharp contrast with Bernie Sanders on health care and taxes on Tuesday, telling a fired-up audience at a local community college that as president, she would not raise taxes on the middle class.
Clinton says at a Dallas rally that Democrats shouldn’t follow a proposal by “one of my opponents” that would eliminate the current system and turn it over to the states.
When Hillary Clinton was first elected to the Senate in 2000, she set a record: No senator had ever been elected with as much money in contributions from the finance sector as she had – $2.98 million, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
“This was a middle-of-the-road approach, even though I’m a strong Bernie (Sanders) supporter”, she said.
“I saw that a few divisiveness could occur within the ranks with an endorsement one way or another”, said Betty Holladay, a 503 board member who proposed the resolution.
The former secretary of state remains the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, with 56 percent support to 31 percent for Sanders in a five-day rolling poll by Reuters/IPSOS dated November 13. Clinton supports 12 weeks of paid leave but has not yet indicated how she would pay for her plan. “She’s going to continue to be hit by people on all sides”.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has won the endorsement of the Service Employees global Union, giving her the support of a labor powerhouse that backed President Barack Obama in 2008.
The union represents nurses, health care workers and other caregivers and is among the most ethnically diverse unions in the country.
The endorsement of the Service Employees worldwide Union gives momentum to Clinton’s bid to woo labor, a key Democratic constituency, and avert a damaging primary fight.
Clinton now has several large union endorsements accounting for about 10 million workers, an organizational force that will help her against Sanders.
Leaders from the union “collectively agreed that the best choice for our union was to endorse Clinton”, SEIU worldwide President Mary Kay Henry said.
Clinton’s campaign also announced she will deliver a national security speech in NY on Thursday, outlining her strategy to defeat the Islamic State group and combat radical jihadism more broadly.
