Bloomingdale’s ‘Inappropriate’ Holiday Ad Stirred Up a few Festive Internet Outrage
Bloomingdale’s is apologizing after one of its holiday advertisement received backlash on social media for promoting date rape. Tech Insider found a charming ad from the retail chain’s holiday catalog in which a few creep, who looks a little too much like Robin Thicke, gives his well-dressed lady friend the look.
Bloomingdale’s has been criticised for a Christmas advert which implicitly encourages men to spike women’s drinks when they aren’t looking.
“The copy we used in our recent catalog was inappropriate and in poor taste”, a representative from the store told Quartz.
It didn’t take long before people began bashing the franchise, saying the language of the ad condoned sexual assault and rape. “Bloomingdale’s sincerely apologizes for this error in judgment”.
Bloomingdale’s just made a pretty glaring mistake. How did we get from selling clothes to that.?

Others noted the ad’s creepy implications, offering simpler suggestions.
