Blue Jays acquire ace David Price in trade with Tigers
According to a Tweet from Jon Heyman, the Toronto Blue Jays are about to acquire David Price from the Detroit Tigers. The 6-2, 195 lbs. lefthander participated in the SirusXM All-Star Futures Game in 2014 and was named the 18-best prospect following the season by Baseball America.
With a 3-10 record in the minors this year and a 4.27 ERA – and perhaps the most disturbing stat being a 1.51 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) – the Tigers may not believe the major leagues is the best place for Norris in 2015.
Price is 7-0 with a 3.86 ERA in nine starts at Rogers Centre. “He’s that type of player, there’s not many of them out there, so you really never expect it to happen”.
The Dodgers, who also added relievers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan, outfielder Michael Morse and infield prospect Jose Peraza, sent promising Cuban infielder Hector Olivera, reliever Paco Rodriguez and pitching prospect Zach Bird to Atlanta.
Former Oregon State pitcher Matt Boyd is changing organizations after he was involved in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
Detroit ace David Price is suddenly available as the Tigers look to retool for next season.
Tulowitzki cost the Blue Jays promising, hard-throwing right-handers Jeff Hoffman and Miguel Castro, and Price forced Toronto to part with the team’s No. 1 prospect heading into this season, southpaw Daniel Norris-the man who spent spring training shaving with an axe and living out of a van.
Just like any other college student, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman had a hard time focusing when big news broke while he was sitting in class.
This is the second straight year Price has been traded at the deadline.
Needless to say, the deal is more bad news for the streaking Orioles, who now sit a game ahead of the Blue Jays. Negotiations took only a few hours because the Blue Jays had the guy they wanted. “We had an opportunity to do it”. “And this is a move that makes the club stronger”, Anthopoulos said.
After strengthening the best offence in baseball by adding Tulowitzki, getting Price immediately helps a team that has struggled with pitching.
“The rumours were out there and Alex mentioned to me (Wednesday) night, ‘hey we’ve got a shot at this guy and I’m going for it, ‘ but when he told me it happened I thought ‘you’re screwing with me, ‘ Gibbons said”.
That tidbit is neither here nor there, but the Jays are certainly going all-in to end their MLB-high playoff drought that began in 1993.
