Blues sign Gomez, place Berglund on injured reserve
Center Scott Gomez of Anchorage, two-time victor of the Stanley Cup, on Wednesday signed a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues. This year, the deal $575,000 in the National Hockey League or $200,000 in the AHL, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Jeremy Rutherford.
Gomez, 35, came to training camp on a professional tryout contract after scoring seven goals and 34 points in 58 games last season with the New Jersey Devils.
The 27-year-old Sweden native recorded 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 77 regular season games with the Blues last season. In that time he’s scored 180 goals and 567 assists. He knows he will be competing with the Blues’ young talent, but he is more concerned about having the prospect of winning. “This team has everything you could ask for”.
The St. Louis Blues confirmed early Wednesday morning that Berglund has been placed on long-term injured reserve for the Central Division club, with anticipation that he’ll return to the lineup by January. Berglund underwent shoulder surgery in August and will be evaluated in four months.
The Blues had a need at forward after Patrik Berglund went down with an injury that’s going to keep him out of the lineup for a few weeks.
