BMW 2002 Hommage Concept re-unveiled with complete new livery
At the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, BMW is bringing their 2002 Hommage model.
BMW’s eighth homage concept auto was the “2002 Hommage”, which we nearly forgot about when it debuted in May.
Moreover, its body mostly made of carbon composites, while the concept is said to be based on the M2 chassis despite the front is more squared than the M2.
While nothing substantial has actually changed from the last time we saw this M2-based concept, BMW has applied a very bright orange, black and gold colour scheme, which mimics the original Jagermeister-sponsored cars that defined a lot of BMW racing activities in the 1970s.
But seriously, the BMW 2002 Hommage pays tribute to the first series-produced turbocharged auto to be built in Europe, the fire-breathing little four that turned the BMW 02 into a full-on sports vehicle.
Painted in iconic orange/black livery – which the brand says is “synonymous in the minds of many motor sport fans with the triumphs of the 1970s” – the 2002 Hommage is toughened with gold multi-spoke wheels matching its headlight surrounds with yellow tinting. 20-inch light-alloy wheels in bi-color design round off the styling as the vehicle meets the road. The large front apron is another nod to the 70s. This was the first of BMW’s cars that genuinely made a success of the American market, and it remains a cult classic in the US to this day. A carbon diffuser integrates the now familiar two sets of twin exhaust tailpipes and wraps up the rear styling with a sporting flourish. An obvious example is the asymmetric BMW logo placement to the right of the license plate.
