BMW Concept M4 GTS – the pinnacle of street-legal racers
Well, today marks official acknowledgment of its existence.
From there, the driver wears a special racing suit made by Puma. The company definitely took the L for Leicht or light in English in CSL to a whole new level. Both of these products were landmarks.
What we do know is that BMW engineers had a field day when it came to making the existing M4 an even more performance-focused sports auto. Unlike those models, it isn’t sold in the U.S. In short, more torque and horsepower is generated.
BMW couldn’t hold their excitement any longer and has decided to make a premature unveil of the M4 GTS through releasing its concept sketches. The list of its predecessors is impressive and includes the E30 M3 Evolution (1988), the E30 M3 Sport Evolution (1990), E36 M3 GT (1995), E46 M3 CSL (2003), E92 M3 GTS (2010) and E90 M3 CRT (2011). Frank van Meel, President BMW M Division says, “Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal”.
The M4 GTS has a lot of new tech that will debut later this year on production models.
Optimized down to the finest detail. BMW has not revealed pricing on the production BMW M4 GTS or launch date. The aluminium hood has been replaced with a CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforced plastic one) for less weight and a large gaping maw up front feeds the air intake and reduces front axle lift. Outlining the wheels as well as the adjustable front spoiler are orange accents. Further modifications are centred around the suspension, with 9.5 J x 19-inch wheels up front and 1.5 J x 20 rims at the rear. Stay tuned for more on BMW’s M4 concept that will soon be hitting dealers.
Water injection: power up, full-load fuel consumption down. It’s the latter of those two Porsches that BMW’s M high-performance division is thought to be privately nervous about. When this vaporises, the intake temp drops significantly.
The result is compression temperature and, to a certain extent the likelihood is engine knocking, is reduced tremendously.
At this year’s Villa d’Este Concours, BMW pulled the wraps off the particularly striking BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, designed in the spirit of the classic CSL race vehicle that claimed victories around the globe and rocketed BMW into the forefront of racing. The stock model develops 431hp from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six. The one for the turbocharger has an indirect intercooler which is assisted by the electric water pump.
