Board of Canvassers certifies Trump victory in MI
Trump’s latest Twitter tirade comes after the Green Party’s Jill Stein spearheaded a fundraising effort to pay for recounts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and MI. The presidential electors meet December 19 to officially cast votes, Thomas said, and federal law requires a certain time period between certification and voting.
Stein said she is “proud to stand up for election integrity” regardless of whether it changes the outcome of the presidential race.
With his return to New York, President-elect Donald Trump faces a pressing need to set more of the foundation blocks of his presidency in place by filling vacancies for secretary of state and other top posts.
Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said a recount would be “a waste of time and disrespectful to all Michigan voters”. The Detroit News reports that she has hired former Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer as her attorney in that effort. While there is zero evidence to back up his assertions, these statements indicate that Trump, too, should be interested in recounts, audits and a review of the voting process.
Stein also filed for a recount in more than 100 of Pennsylvania’s 9,100 precincts Monday.
‘I believe voting for Trump would bring dishonor to God, ‘ Sisneros writes in a blog post.
However, Stein’s effort to recount votes in Wisconsin, as well as Pennsylvania and MI has merit, according to Alex Keyssar, a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Earlier, Mr. Trump also claimed he could have won the popular votes also if the contest was set accordingly.
“I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally”, Trump tweeted in the afternoon before alleging in an evening tweet “serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California”.
State officials did not require each county to tally its results by hand – so it is possible county vote canvassing boards that opt to re-tabulate machines’ results could face lawsuits seeking a change in methodology.
There has been no indication of widespread election tampering or voter fraud in those states or any others, and Trump aides struggled Monday to back up their boss’ claim. Instead, Trump won all three and with them the electoral votes needed to win the White House.
In another tweet, he named Virginia, New Hampshire and California as three states with “serious voter fraud”. They pointed to past charges of irregularity in voter registration.
“They are misinterpreting” with regard to any finding of fraud, said David Becker, who at the time was the director of Pew’s elections program. But one local elector said he’s resigning before that vote is taken.
However, the most freaky aspect of Donald Trump’s behavior is the fact that a man is contesting the results of an election that he already won. He must provide more information on how he knows that the election was rigged and what we can do to prevent such things from happening again.
Donald Trump’s transition team on Monday pushed back against an effort to recount November 8’s presidential election votes, calling the effort “nonsense”, but offering no evidence to back a weekend Trump tweet alleging millions of illegal votes.
