Bobbi Kristina Brown’s partner loses wrongful death case
On September 16, Bobbi Kristina’s former boyfriend Gordon was found legally responsible in her death after he failed to appear in court for a hearing in the wrongful death lawsuit brought against him, Atlanta’s Fulton county court confirmed to usmagazine.com.
The Brown family alleges that Gordon gave her a toxic combination of drugs and put her in a bathtub.
“In court today, we finally finished a long journey for justice for Bobbi Kristina Brown”, Brown’s estate attorney R. David Ware said outside court.
“You can’t ignore the court process, especially when you are accused of having engaged in this sort of horrific conduct”, Ware said in a phone interview, “You have to give account, and Mr. Gordon made a decision to thumb his nose at the court process and the court has finally said that he must pay”.
People who face the possibility of criminal charges can find it tough to defend themselves in a civil case because, if they assert their right not to incriminate themselves, it can be interpreted as an admission of liability, Pate said. She was 22. Bobbi Kristina’s estate filed a Dollars 50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Gordon one month later. A jury trial will be scheduled to determine damages.
In an Instagram post later on Friday, 47-year-old Brown reacted to the verdict, claiming he had “got” Nick Gordon.
She died at a hospice in July 2015, six months after she was found unresponsive in a bath.
Her autopsy showed evidence of recent cocaine use, as well as other drugs and alcohol in her system.
The lawsuit sought $50m (£38m) in compensation, punitive damages and the return of Brown’s property, including a valuable ring.
The lawsuit was later amended to include an allegation of wrongful death, seeking additional damages.
Houston took in Gordon at age 12, according to the reality television series, The Houstons: On Our Own.
Bobbi Kristina Brown was an aspiring singer who began performing with her mother as early as 1999, singing duets of “My Love is Your Love”.
Houston was found dead in a hotel bath in Los Angeles in 2012.
