Bobby Jindal ends presidential bid after clash with Christie at GOP debate
Announcing his campaign in New Orleans in June, Jindal told supporters: “The guy in the White House today is a great talker, and we have a bunch of great talkers running for president”.
Republican presidential candidate Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, addresses the Sunshine Summit in Orlando, Fla., Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Jindal said that after leaving office, he would work on a think tank he formed.
“I can not tell you what an honor it has been to run for President of the United States of America”, Jindal wrote.
“I think the Republican Party has to lay out the pathway why we are the party for opportunity and growth”, he said.
In announcing his withdrawal from the race, Jindal said he wasn’t ready to endorse another candidate.
Jindal, who will leave the governor’s mansion next january, said that he will return to the America Next studies center, which he established. “To me this is very sad that we are losing one that really resonated well with Iowans when they got to hear him”.
Jindal is the third sitting or former governor to drop out of the race; as candidates without political experience surge, those with the kind of executive experience typically celebrated in presidential campaigns have failed to shine this year.
On Monday, Jindal’s campaign said he would continue his tour of Iowa’s 99 counties this week.
He languished near the back of the big Republican pack seeking the GOP nomination, a group that included several politicians – and political neophytes – with higher profiles.
But retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who with businessman Donald Trump are far ahead of the rest of the Republican field, captured numerous conservative voters Jindal had hoped would come his way.
“Bobby Jindal is a friend, a patriot, and an incredible governor who has consistently and passionately championed conservative values”.
Since the Republican Party kicked off its presidential primary debates in August, Jindal had been relegated to the second-tier kiddie table forums held before each main event-and unlike a few of his fellow cellar-dwellers, he hadn’t been getting rave reviews for his performances there.
