Bobby: Without Brees, Saints would be a little better than Cleveland
Despite dealing with a torn plantar fascia, Drew Brees will start Sunday for the New Orleans Saints against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Not only could the Saints ask him to do more if Brees’s foot injury limits him enough, but it’s always nice to see what a running back can do against a run defense that hasn’t been giving up much ground lately.
Brees has authored many great performances in his remarkable career here in New Orleans but none gutsier than his 412-yard, three-touchdown masterpiece on Sunday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have their penultimate game of this football season at 4:05 on Sunday in New Orleans against the Saints. When Jacksonville opened the second half with a touchdown drive, Brees responded with a 44-yard touchdown strike to newly signed running back Travaris Cadet.
What should we take from the New Orleans Saints 38-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Bortles and his top receiver Allen Robinson were left off the Pro Bowl roster announced Tuesday with Robinson named a first alternate despite being one of the league leaders with 13 touchdown catches.
Flynn sound eager to get a chance to play, but said he understands why Brees would push to remain on the field for the final two games of the season.
Hightower doesn’t have too hard a matchup as Jacksonville is allowing 4.3 yards per attempt over their last three games. Even with one bad wheel and at less than 100 percent, he is still the best player on the field in nearly every game the Saints play.
Brees is due to count $30 million against the Saints salary cap in 2016 and reportedly won’t be on the roster unless he takes a hometown discount. The Saints have gone 7-9, 11-5, and 7-9 the past three years; and the need a win in Atlanta to reach 7-9 this season.
Drew Brees will play through the pain.
He had one touchdown and one interception after throwing eight TDs with no picks in the previous two games.
The Jaguars played against the Falcons last week.
All he has to do is convince coach Sean Payton, who hasn’t named a starting quarterback for the Saints’ home finale. “We’re really happy for him as a person because we love his approach and his work ethic and how much he’s invested in this”. Even when players were in position to make plays, like safety Johnathan Cyprien was in the end zone against tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, they couldn’t get it done.
Head coach Gus Bradley and defensive coordinator Bob Babich are supposed to be, you know, good (if not great) defensive minds and this was just another game that proved that theoretical prowess wrong. I felt like, for the most part, the guys up front did a fantastic job. Cooks would surpass a 1,000 yards receiving becoming the first Saints receiver to accomplish that feat since 2012. There is no anticipated change in the game plan, but Brees’ mobility will be a concern similar to the last game against the Detroit Lions.
