Bodies in missing family’s burned cabin trigger homicide probe
Ten days ago, Adam Buchanan, his girlfriend Molly McAff and their 7-year-old son, Gavin, were staying at their Greenwood area cabin in El Dorado County when a fire broke out.
Authorities are investigating a possible homicide after at least two sets of remains were found in a burned-out home earlier this month in Garden Valley.
Benicia El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that it has opened a homicide investigation into the human remains that were found in the burned down cabin of a Benicia family.
Neighbors said during the search, Adam’s 16-year-old son, who had reportedly not gone with the family to their cabin, was asked to remain in front of the house during the search. El Dorado County Coroner’s confirmed two person’s remains were located inside the burned residence.
Sheriff’s sergeant Todd Hammitt said: ‘Right now we have to be vague.
Stephen Gizzi, a Buchanan family attorney, told SFGate.com that that the family left Benicia for the vacation cabin, more than 100 miles northeast, September 11. Until the bodies are identified, there are a million possible scenarios’.
“There is absolutely nothing that we are aware of in their personal lives or business lives of the individuals involved that would give rise to anything of this nature”, said attorney Steve Gizzi.
“I’ve always known that it was a criminal investigation”, Gizzi said. It was destroyed by fire two day’s later along with ten acres of land. They won’t say whether they had a reason or don’t have a reason.
