Body found on river in Gold Coast hinterland
A DECOMPOSING body has been found on the banks of a river at Pimpama in the Gold Coast hinterland.
Police are treating the school girl’s death as a suspected homicide and are expected to speak to the media about the case on Saturday afternoon.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they were in the vicinity of the bridge over the Pimpama River on Kerkin Road North within the last seven days.
Detectives are now checking recent missing person reports to find a link to the unidentified body.
Earlier, a major crime scene was established in the area while scientific and forensic officers combed for clues.
Police were not able to identify the body as Tiahleigh until late on Friday evening due to the “significant decomposition” of the body as it had been in the water for a few time.
“There are, surprisingly, a number of potential people that it could be and we currently have detectives out there now trying to narrow the list down more”, Hutchinson said.
“We do believe it is a very popular place for fishing and swimming, and people go kayaking in that area”.
