The 2007 Fiesta Bowl is considered one of the best and most important college football games of all-time. In the third bowl game of the season, there is a contest between two above average teams.
Nevada native Tyrell Crosby is will be switching numbers this Saturday when OR takes on Boise State at the Las Vegas Bowl. Fast forward to 2017, and the Broncos again find themselves as underdogs in a West Coast bowl against a Power 5 team.
Georgia State is comfortably the worst team in a bowl game by Football Outsiders’ F/+ rankings, sitting at No. 111 in the nation after losing its last two games and failing to cover in the final four. Tyree Robinson would pick off Brett Rypien in the end zone and proceed to take the ball 100 yards to the house. The Ducks, on the other hand, started the season 4-1 before Justin Herbert was knocked out and missed a handful of games. Herbert also has run for five touchdowns and can extend a lot of plays due to his mobility.
“All of their running backs are really good”, BSU linebacker Leighton Vander Esch said.
Freeman ran for 1,475 yards and 16 touchdowns this season and caps his OR career with a school-record 5,621 yards and 60 scores. With him out for the bowl game, Herbert will need to have a big game through the air.
“It seemed just for me and us a no-brainer”, Boise State director of esports Chris Haskell said. Leighton Vander Esch leads the Boise State Broncos with 129 tackles, Curtis Weaver has nine sacks and Kekoa Nawahine has three interceptions. Freeman’s 60 career rushing touchdowns are the most in Pac-12 annals. The Ducks leading rusher won’t play in the game as he prepares himself for the NFL Draft, and his absence should have an impact on the offense.
