Boko Haram attacks northeast Nigerian city, 50 killed
At least 50 individuals have been killed and the dying toll might go larger.
About 20 people were killed and 90 wounded by a bomb explosion in a mosque in the northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Monday, the state emergency agency NEMA said.
The military said attacks took place at four south-western entry points to the city. Bana Goni, a resident of Malumti village six kilometers from Benisheikh, headquarters of Kaga LGA, said Boko Haram militants in a Hilux jeep and others on motorcycles stormed Malumti on Sunday morning, shooting sporadically.
“We are under siege”, Adullahi said.
Boko Haram militants are in the sixth year of a violent campaign that has killed thousands to impose their brand of Islamic law on Africa’s most populous country and biggest economy.
LAGOS Nigeria (Xinhua) – Many people are feared dead as two suicide bombers on Monday attacked a motor park in northeast Nigeria’s Madagali city in the Adamawa State.
Troops intercepted the suspects before it could strike the Borno Statecapital, which has borne the biggest brunt of such attacks the Boko Haram sect has initiated over the years. “If today, Boko Haram is operating from one or two local governments in the entire country, I think the military has largely succeeded in wiping out Boko Haram”.
About 20,000 people have been killed in Nigeria and hundreds others elsewhere as the Boko Haram Takfiri militants, affiliated to Daesh terrorists, have extended their attacks across its borders into Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
The source said the insurgents struck again on Sunday evening at about 7:30 at Jiddari Polo, during which they attacked a local beer parlour which they burnt down after killing two persons.
“Since last night, residents have been finding undetonated bombs believed to have been abandoned by Boko Haram gunmen”.
Abubakar, who was represented by Maj.-General Lamidi Adeosun, the GOC, 7 Division, said that the bombers were successfully intercepted by men of the Nigerian Army on patrol.
But for military intelligence and luck, Boko Haram almost had Maiduguri pencilled down for a massive massacre through suicide bombing.
Later on, three suicide bombers reportedly blew themselves up at a home near Bakassi Estate, killing at least 18 people, another soldier told the Associated Press.
A group, as Concerned Professionals’ Congress (CPC), has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s sincerity, zeal and clarity of objective have played major roles in the success of the Nigerian military in degrading and defeating Boko Haram to actualise the December 31, 2015 deadline.
