The Nigerian Army on Saturday announced that troops from its 5th Brigade has “comprehensively destroy (sic) all Boko Haram camps and enclaves at the border towns of Kerenowa and Chikun Gudu as well as their contiguous villages in Borno State”.
President Muhammadu Buhari says desperate actions like detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices will take a longer time to eradicate, even as his administration’s optimism continues to grow that Boko Haram will be crushed by December.
Ezekwem was of the view that the government should concentrate on how to stop the killings, destruction of life and properties of innocent and law-abiding citizens of the country, which is perpetrated by the armed Boko Haram group, instead of beaming its search light on the MASSOB group, which, he said, were agitating peacefully for a cause.
“The responsibility of detecting criminals lies with all of us”.
The COAS said that the tempo of the operation, the number of troops and equipment had all increased.
The Army Chief assured the troops that all their logistics problems were being addressed and urged them to be loyal and obedient to their superior authorities without which no meaningful progress would be achieved.
Lawan said: “The president has said we should highlight that security is everybody’s business, because a few of these people live among us and the only way we can eliminate this menace is by being vigilant and observant”. Buratai charged the soldiers to apply tactics, battle procedure and fire discipline. He assured the civil population that the army would maintain high standard of professionalism in the course of its duties.
Shettima said the traditional and religious leaders’ meeting would discuss firm measures that might require policy pronouncements aimed at addressing the newest attacks on mosques during prayers as carried out by insurgents.
He said the insurgents would soon be history but Nigerians needed to be alert to the new threat of the terrorist group.
Ogunsakin, who is charge of Borno, Adamawa and Bauchi commands, told the police officers that “it is important to let you know that the Nigerian police has a key role, synergising with other security agencies, in ensuring that peace is restored to the entire North East”.
