Boko Haram100 terrorists killed in Cameroon
The government denies that Boko Haram holds any territory in Cameroon.
“This should have happened much earlier, because this terrorist group has been carrying out attacks in border regions”, he said, pointing out that in recent weeks the group killed an ethnic ruler and his family in Niger.
United Nations Secretary-General today called on the worldwide community to provide urgent support for humanitarian aid to communities hit by the Nigerian-based Boko Haram, deploring its latest “appalling” attacks in Cameroon.
On November 27, Boko Haram carried out an attack against Shia marchers observing a ritual in Nigeria’s northern city of Kano. “However, an army officer in Nigeria, which is leading the force, denied knowledge of the operation”.
The attacks have been blamed on Boko Haram, a radical Sunni jihadist group seeking to create a hard-line Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.
The vigilantes, said regional governor Midjiyawa Bakari, provide “substantial backup” on the intelligence front and some are being equipped with metal detectors to help them ward off fresh assaults.
There has been no independent confirmation of the claim.
Since launching its violent insurgency six years ago, Boko Haram has killed at least 17,000 people and abducted around 2,000, according to Amnesty International.
On Monday, a landmine planted by Boko Haram killed two Cameroonian soldiers in the north of the country.
In Nigeria, the military has retaken towns once controlled by the militants.
Boko Haram espouses a fundamentalist interpretation of Sunni Islam and regards Shiite Muslims as heretics. The group straps bombs on them and sends them into crowded places.
While in most cases the explosives were detonated by the bombers themselves, some evidence suggests that vests on child bombers may be set off remotely.
He said the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists took advantage of the influx of IDPs to the camp and infiltrated it, in order to wreck more havoc among the society.
