Bolt says 200-meter world record now likely beyond him
Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt and Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana are the top athletes for 2016 after they were presented with the IAAF World Athlete of the Year awards today.
Usain Bolt again said he doesn’t plan to run the 200 meters in his final season, realizing that his world record of 19.19 seconds is now likely beyond him.
Olympic 10,000 metres champion and world record holder Almaz Ayana won the award for in the women’s category.
“This season is pretty much mainly for the fans”, Bolt said.
Pearson hopes to return to peak fitness to compete at her first major championship in three years at the London World championships next year after missing the Rio Olympics this year and the Beijing World championships the year before.
Usain Bolt admits running the 200 metres in under 19 seconds is the only remaining feat he wishes he had achieved during his illustrious career.
“When you get to be athlete of the year, it means that all the hard work has paid off”. You should have said to just go out there and win it’.
“It’s definitely a big deal”, Bolt told a press conference ahead of the evening’s awards gala held at Sporting Monte Carlo. If I’d got more serious I think I would have done a lot more in my career.
“Everybody has their reasons for everything, but I really don’t know. I wanted people to see all of that so they could understand me better and to see the work I put in is no joke”.
“Tyson was one of the opponents I respected the most because he was the most determined competitor who pushed right through to the end”.
