Bomb Scare at National Guard Armory in Tallahassee
A military facility in the US was evacuated Tuesday after a man reported placing a bomb there, but nothing suspicious was found, authorities said.
“At approximately 10:15 a.m. this morning the consolidated dispatch agency received a call from a citizen who said a male approached him in the parking lot of the Dollar General at Capitol Circle and Park Avenue and asked him if he had a phone”. The man made the comment about the bomb after he was taken into custody.
There has been a threat of a bomb inside the National Guard Armory on Capital Circle NE, according to Tallahassee Police Department spokesman Officer David Northway. No one has been taken into custody as previously said by Lt. Justin Phillips with the Army National Guard.
WCTV News stories a “police presence” in the world of a shopping mall in Tallahassee this morning, however says “its’ not recognized if the 2 scenes are associated”. Phillips later said he was mistaken.
Only armory staff were present at the time of the threat, he said.
Tallahassee police also placed nearby daycare centers, schools and churches on lockdown.
In an executive order, Florida Governor Rick Scott moved six military recruiting offices on Saturday into nearby armories and said that every member must be armed.
