“There was a bomb threat”, team manager Oliver Bierhoff confirmed.
The world champions arrived in the capital on Thursday ahead of an worldwide friendly at the Stade de France, but their preparation was cruelly disturbed when an anonymous bomb threat was called in.
The team is supposed to come back to the hotel to pick up their match equipment and kits after which they will travel to the Stade de France to play the match.
“The French police were contacted and they assessed the risk and decided the hotel should be evacuated. Management took all precautions to ensure the safety of its guests and staff and are cooperating with the authorities”.
Police with sniffer dogs went on site to check for potential explosives and a security perimeter was established around the hotel.
France won 2-0 on the evening, but the game was overshadowed by the events that unfolded outside the stadium that left dozens of people dead. It’s also been reported that there were six separate terrorist attacks that began at 9:30pm French time, which Hollande has described as “unprecedented”.
