Bomb Threat Reported at Jewish School on Chicago’s North Side
The David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie, Florida, was evacuated on Tuesday after a bomb threat was phone in, according to a report by local Fox affiliate WSVN.
The Anti-Defamation League also tweeted early Tuesday that multiple officers have received bomb threats. How can the ADL hope to combat anti-Semitism if it does not even acknowledge the source of an anti-Semitic threat to its own offices?
It was also approved the same day that a St. Louis man was charged for making at least eight bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers and the Anti-Defamation League. NYPD said the number of bias-crimes so far this year has more than doubled compared to the same time period last year and that anti-Semitic crimes comprise the biggest increase.
Immediately following the election, Nazi-themed graffiti found its way to walls in Wellsville, N.Y. – where one wall read “Make America White Again”, and a Jewish school in Middlebury, Vt. “Members of our community must see swift and concerted action from federal officials to identify and capture the perpetrator or perpetrators who are trying to instill anxiety and fear in our communities”, Posner said in a statement last week. “We will follow up with more information as it becomes available”. “So we’re really in an unprecedented moment”, de Blasio said.
Numerous nation’s most prominent and powerful Jewish organizations immediately came out in support of the letter, including the ADL, the American Jewish Committee, the Jewish Community Center Association of North America, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, Orthodox Union, the Jewish Federations of North America and the Union for Reform Judaism.
On Friday, they arrested a Missouri man accused of making at least eight of the threats nationwide, including one to the ADL in NY.
“I thought that the discussion was really helpful, and I think it needed to happen”, Grayson said after the town hall. “This is a moment when forces of hate have been unleashed”. The facilities were reopened at 11:15 a.m. and programming will follow as normal.
Employees at the Manhattan office were evacuated voluntarily, and told they could re-enter the building around 11:30 a.m. “I’ve been doing this work for nearly 20 years now and I haven’t seen anything like this in terms of a sustained campaign of bomb threats”, he says. “We are active at the ADL right now”.
