Bomb threat: Turkish Airlines flight makes emergency landing at Delhi airport
As said by sources at the IGI airport, the crew of the Turkish Airlines aircraft flying from Bangkok to Istanbul found a message written on the mirror of the aircraft bathroom “Bomb in Cargo”.
This is the fifth time Turkish Airlines has received such a bomb-on-board threat in the recent past.
The pilot then contacted Nagpur Air Traffic Controller who guided them to Delhi ATC.
The flight was isolated at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, while high-level security forces were handling the situation. And, given the real possibility that the person who wrote the message was among the passengers or crew, Indian sleuths questioned everyone. “Since Delhi has the best systems in place to handle such emergencies, the aircraft was diverted there”, said aviation secretary R N Choubey. Necessary safety checks are currently taking place.
The aircraft was checked for explosives by CISF and Bomb Disposal Squads. “All the passengers were screened”.
According to the sources, it is unlikely that there is any explosive in the plane but all precautions have been taken before any declaration.
The plane, an Airbus 330, landed safely at 1341 hours on Tuesday, taken to an isolation bay, sources said, adding “it appears to be a hoax”. Senior officials of CISF and NSG officials held a meeting after the bomb scare.
