Bomb threat: Two Air France flights diverted for security objective
Two Air France flights flying from the U.S.to Paris were diverted to airfields in Utah and Canada Tuesday night due to anonymous threats.
The threats were received by Air France shortly after the flights took off from Washington and Los Angeles, reports the CBC.
One flight, from Washington D.C.to Paris, was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, while the other, from Los Angeles to the French capital, was diverted to Salt Lake City, according to US broadcasters CNN and NBC and Canada’s CBC.
RCMP have since determined there was no threat on Air France Flight 55, but passengers say it was still upsetting.
However once landed, the planes were found to have neither explosives nor any credible threats on board, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and US media said.
Officials on the ground at the airport told passengers that a bomb threat had prompted the emergency landing, Ingley said.
Two Air France flights en route to Paris from the United States were diverted on Tuesday because of security issues, and passengers and crew were safely removed, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Both aircraft landed safely and the passengers were unharmed, the BBC reported.
“Local authorities are carrying out complete inspections of the aircraft, their passengers and their luggage”, the statement said.
“I myself wasn’t prepared to make that decision last night, I was exhausted, I was pretty freaked out, so we just decided, ‘OK, we’ll stay in Salt Lake City, ‘” Wolfe said.
The flight that was diverted to Salt Lake City took off again after midnight. Delta Call Authorities will lead an investigation to identify the source of the telephone call made to one of Delta Air Lines Inc.’s reservation centers, the carrier said.
