Bones Takes A Dig At Spock In First Star Trek Beyond Clip

Rihanna insists she was the obvious choice to record a theme for the new Star Trek movie, because she’s a huge fan of the sci-fi franchise.

“Star Trek has been a part of my life since I was a little girl”, she said.

The R&B star has just made history by releasing the video for her new Trekker single, Sledgehammer, becoming the first artist to shoot a promo entirely with IMAX cameras. Not much is known about the white-skinned alien, but I’m loving her character design.

After a spell of directorial and writing disruption, Star Trek Beyond arrives in United States theaters in the 50th anniversary year of the television series that launched the Starship Enterprise. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) ushered in the era of Star Trek movies.

This new clip is more character centric as it shows a tender moment between Zachary Quinto’s Spock and Zoe Saldana’s Uhura, after which Karl Urban’s Bones strides in and proceeds to school Spock on the intricacies of the relationship world. Directed by Justin Lin, the third film in the franchise series is produced by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Lindsey Weber, and Justin Lin; and executive produced by Jeffrey Chernov, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Tommy Harper.

Star Trek Beyond opens against the animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course and the James Wan-produced horror Lights Out, and also arrives a week after the release of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot.
