Bordeaux confirm Toon interest in Rolan
Bordeaux’s president has confirmed that Newcastle United have “been in contact” about the availability of striker Diego Rolan this summer.
“There has been contact with Newcastle, but never directly with us, only through various intermediaries”.
But if one of our players could interest another club they know my phone and my address, so: direct contact! This form prompted interest from the likes of Newcastle United, but following their signing of another striker in Aleksandar Mitrovic, Villa may be best placed to secure the signing.
“I’ve never heard talk of Aston Villa”.
According to reports coming out of Uruguay, per the aforementioned source, Villa lodged a £13 million bid for the 22-year-old, who joined Bordeaux from Defensor Sporting in February 2013.
Now it seems that no approach has in fact been made for the player. Emmanuel Adebayor has been linked but someone a bit younger, with a bit more hunger, makes sense.
15 of those goals came during an impressive last season, where he lit up the league by managing that tally in just 28 games, as he handsomely paid back his small £2million price tag.
Whereas Benteke was an aerial threat, Rolan prefers to rely on his pace to trouble defenders, with all his goals having been scored from inside the area and all but three coming courtesy of his right foot.
