Boston police say no investigation in apparent Okafor fight
“Yesterday, a video taped outside of a Boston nightclub showed a young brash and irate version of Jahlil Okafor, the 6’10” 271 pound rookie center sensation for the Philadelphia 76ers.
(1) Was Jahlil Okafor alone?
Okafor, 19, was the the third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft this past June.
Phil Pressey, who missed a late scoring chance for the 76ers, said: “This one hurts because we’ve been doing it over and over again”.
Jahlil Okafor scored 11 points during a 116-114 loss to the Rockets on Friday, adding six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one turnover.
It all went down after Okafor and the 76ers lost to the Boston Celtics – Jahlil and some friends went out on the town … and ended up in an altercation in front of Storyville Boston nightclub.
The Boston PD says the victim filed a police report Friday morning, claiming Okafor hit him so square in the face, he sustained a cut above his eye that required stitches.
The man alleged Okafor and another man – Okafor said he was with teammate Christian Wood – approached his friends and tried to get the phone numbers of “a few” women in the group, police said.
As for Okafor, he says he’s embarrassed by the incident, but stands by his story that he reacted because he felt threatened by hecklers.
An NBA spokesman also said Friday that the league was aware and looking into the incident.
Okafor was stopped by police on the Ben Franklin Bridge about three weeks ago for going 108 miles per hour, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
On Thursday, TMZ released a video allegedly showing Okafor punching a man outside a Boston club.
The 76ers released a statement on Thursday saying they were working to gather additional information on the incident.
Brown said the team will handle the situation internally and he expects input from the league. “Until that time, we will have no further comment”. The Celtics won 84-80.
