Boston Voters React To Biden’s Decision To Stay Out Of Presidential Race
US Vice President Joe Biden yesterday announced he will not run for the White House in 2016, removing a potential obstacle to frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s path to the Democratic presidential nomination.
In an extraordinary appearance in the White House Rose Garden, Biden said he always knew the window for a viable campaign might close before he could determine whether his family was emotionally prepared for another campaign so soon after losing his son, Beau Biden, in May. His wife Jill and President Barack Obama stood by his side as he delivered his speech.
“I like Joe Biden a lot and thought it would be great if he ran and give democrats more choice, the country more choice”, said one voter in Boston’s Copley Square.
But what was widely hailed as a command performance by Clinton in the October 13 Democratic debate turned the tide back in her favour and quieted talk that she was vulnerable in her quest for her party’s nomination for the November 2016 election. But in the end, Beau’s untimely death my have left his father and the extended Biden family too grief stricken to be able to withstand the public scrutiny a presidential campaign would inevitably bring. He was elected six times to the U.S. Senate from Delaware before that. “And for the sake of the country, we have to work together”.
Biden took shots at front-runner Hillary Clinton and Sen.
His decision is good news for Clinton, who already was gaining and now does not have to worry that the warm, genial Biden will be on the trail inviting comparisons to her personal weaknesses.
Biden also criticized Clinton for the remarks she made in last week’s CNN Democratic debate about how Republicans were her enemies.
The Republican candidates mostly stayed mum or began hitting the other Democratic candidates.
His decision is a major boost for the Clinton campaign, as Mr Biden’s supporters are now likely to turn to Mrs Clinton as their candidate. “We’re making a tragic mistake if we walk away from, or try to undo, the Obama legacy,”, said Joe Biden, quoted by the same source.
With Biden out of the race, Clinton’s campaign sees the hearing as a final hurdle before she can fully focus on early voting contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere.
