Both WhatsApp and Gmail top 1 billion users
This is the seventh Google service with a billion users, joining Search, Chrome, Android, Google
It might seem odd that Gmail which is older than any of the other services mentioned above, other than search took so long to hit that milestone, but it makes sense.

For comparison, there were 1.5 billion users of Windows in 2014 according to Microsoft, and there are now 1.2 billion users of the company’s Office suite. The new report contains details regarding how many people are now using Gmail.
Google shared the landmark achievement and expressed its gratitude toward users through Twitter.
Past year in November Google made an announcement today that it has released Smart Reply, for its Gmail users, a machine learning program built into its Inbox by Gmail apps which will send automated email responses on your behalf.
As of May 2015, it was reported that Gmail had 900 million active users.
Facebook’s flagship service and Groups each count more than a billion users as well.
A lot of tech companies have begun to break out active users among their various products.
Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Facebook said at the time of the purchase: “WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people”. Facebook’s platform has 1.59 billion monthly active users as well. Hotmail, on the other hand, has around 400 million users, while Yahoo is far behind with less than 300 million users, showcasing the true popularity of Gmail compared to other email services these days.
