Bottled water distribution underway in Flint
Its director, Captain Chris Kelenske of the Michigan State Police, said a primary goal is to provide every household in Flint with a water filter, which can remove almost all lead from water when properly used.
Since October, more than 12,000 filters have been distributed, more than 2,000 blood tests have been done and more than 700 water tests have been conducted, Snyder said.
The crisis in Flint began almost two years ago, when the city switched its water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River.

The city switched back to Detroit’s water supply from Lake Huron in October.
“We still want to see people using filters… and bottled water”, the governor said.
Following the resignation of Michigan’s top environmental official, as well as sustained community demands, the Department of Justice announced this week it is launching an investigation into the water crisis.
But in August, a group of skeptical researchers from Virginia Tech came up and did in-home testing and found elevated levels of lead in the drinking water and made those findings public.
The state said Sunday that the water resource teams will go into Flint neighborhoods beginning Tuesday. According to the World Health Organization, “Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer profound and permanent adverse health effects, particularly affecting the development of the brain and nervous system”.
“This is an unfortunate situation that I do apologize for with respect to our responsibility”, Governor Rick Snyder said Thursday after meeting with the city’s mayor.
Micheal Moore is a little more direct. Moore wrote an open letter on Facebook directly to Rick Snyder when accusing him of poisoning the children of Flint, Michigan.
“I’m frustrated by the water issue in Flint”.
Weaver said that a final assessment has not yet been done and that the city has received quotes from the millions up to $1.5 billion.
For as little as $100 per day the state of MI could have treated the water and prevented the life-long suffering that the children of Flint are now going to experience, but instead it prioritized fiscal savings over the health and human rights of children. What’s more, as the community grew concerned about its water, administration officials initially told local residents not to worry and to keep drinking the water. The city was under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager at the time and the state Department of Environmental Quality acknowledged it failed to make sure the city added corrosion control chemicals that would have stopped lead from leaching into the water from pipes and fixtures.
