Boulder County primed to honor legacy of Martin Luther King Jr
Demonstrators pointed to this year marking the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Freedom Movement where the city’s black community organized to demand, among other things, open housing and quality education.
“My dream is for one day, to see everybody show more love and care for each other and create opportunities for the young people of the future”, Brown said.
The march participants are also invited to participate in a service project as part of the event by donating non-perishable food items and socks at the Mediacom Ice Park and the Gillioz. It will be followed by the Ecumenical Service, which will include music, award presentations and a sermon delivered by Bishop E. Lynn Brown.
This will be the 17th year the community has embraced such a celebration.
The civil rights leader paved the way and broke barriers when it came to equal rights for all people.
Hamilton and Oxford as well as Liberty and West Chester townships also have MLK events planned.
Martin Luther King, Jr. “So it’s just a festival of coming together on Martin Luther King Day”. The NAACP will serve a light brunch and spiritual program there after the march. Almost 200 students in the Dubuque area submitted information for the Dr. Martin Luther King tribute contest.
Workday is set from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m., Monday, at Steffan Manor Elementary School, 815 Cedar St., and David Weir K-8 Preparatory Academy, 1975 Pennsylvania Ave.

The march will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway, and will continue to the Gillioz Theater, 325 Park Central Square, where a program is planned.
The event will feature guest speakers and a gospel choir, and will be free of charge. “The unspoken dreams of African American Children”.
