Bound Pedro gives Barcelona parting gift of Super Cup triumph
FC Barcelona striker Pedro Rodriguez was the hero of the night as Barca won a thrilling European Supercup final 5-4 against Sevilla on Tuesday.
Pedro has had limited chances at Barca due to the presence of players like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, with reports he is close to agreeing a move to Manchester United.
Pedro has however denied such claims, insisting Barcelona remains his priority. Pedro’s victor came as Messi was lining up another free kick, which initially rebounded off the wall and came back to Messi, whose second shot was saved by Beto, only for Pedro to put the ball in the roof of the net.
“The match began strangely for us, we were losing but then I thought we were much better and stronger”.
If you didn’t know Pedro wanted to leave Barcelona before the UEFA Super Cup final, you will have done after. “I’m here now and I want to enjoy this title”.
“There are many pros and cons about my situation”, Pedro said.
The Spain global was left out of the starting line-up, for the UEFA Super Cup tie against Sevilla in Tbilisi and the club’s technical secretary, Robert Fernandez, told TV3 that the 28-year-old had asked to leave. He has made some very unfortunate statements.
“I don’t know what will happen with him, it’s a decision he has to take, but whatever he does he deserves it”.
The former Liverpool midfielder went on to admit that he was “frustrated” by his team’s performance against Sevilla, who fought back from 4-1 down to force extra time.
“We knew how hard our opponent would be”.
“I was surprised to not start in this game, but Luis Enrique has decided to give confidence to other players”.
“I’m thrilled that Pedro was the one to get the winning goal”, Messi said.
Yes, there are nice challenges on all sides.
“I know who I am and I will always be of Barca”.
“Everyone values him and even more in a year like this when we want to win trophies”.
Barcelona increased the gap to three in the 52nd minute as Suarez scored one-on-one, 4-1.
