Bowe Bergdahl detained after Mendocino County marijuana raid
A man whose military record came under intense scrutiny in 2014, was among several people detained during a marijuana raid on Tomki Road Tuesday morning, reported by Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman. Officers questioned him but “determined [him] not to be connected to the operation, at least there was no evidence to suggest he was involved”, Van Patten said, Fox News reported.
Bergdahl was recovered last year in Afghanistan and brought to Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston. When Bergdahl encountered the law enforcement team, Van Patten asserted he identified himself while the sheriff’s office reached out to the Department of Defense.
Officials in California made contact with the U.S. Army after Bergdahl told them who he was.

The sergeant was not arrested and was later transported back to his duty station. Instantly aware that the Sgt. was a high profile person, the Sheriff’s Department quickly confirmed that Bergdahl was on an authorized leave to visit friends in Northern California and uninvolved with marijuana production. “He has not been charged with any crime involving his time on leave”.

Bergdahl is now awaiting a court martial on charges of desertion, after being returned to the United States last May as part of a prisoner swap in exchange for the release of five Taliban detainees at Guantanamo Bay.
