Boy, 9, injured after hit in head at baseball game
During the team’s National Baseball Congress World Series game Saturday night, he was accidentally hit by a player’s bat.
A 9-year-old bat boy was in critical condition after getting hit in the head with a bat by a baseball player taking practice swings in Kansas, his team said.
Kaiser was hurt Saturday afternoon when he went to collect a discarded bat near a Bee Jays batter that was warming up to hit. Kaiser was wearing a helmet, McCaffrey said.
Carlile, who was wearing a helmet, was taken away in an ambulance and his death was confirmed on Sunday. He was a part of the team.
Carlile, described as a Bee Jays superfan, had been with the team throughout the summer as its only bat boy.
Jim Parks has been coming to the NBC World Series for 60 years, and never has he seen an incident quite like this. “Thank you all for the support during this ordeal”.
The Bee Jays credited umpire Mark Goldfeder with beginning first aid on the child before nearby emergency workers took over.
“I have heard he is still hanging in there”, McCaffrey said, adding that it is, “understandable not to want to have 25 guys there when it is so emotional”.
“We decided we would just stay and do basically a pass the hat deal, walk through the stands and pick up donations, twenties, fifties, tens, not asking for change, just hey, here’s our prayers”, said Morgan Blackim. “One that saddens us all”. Kaiser is his cousin’s son.
“Please continue to pray and keep Kaiser and his family in your thoughts”, the team wrote.
