Boy, aged three, among six people injured in boat explosion
Police were called to Bray Lock in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, at around 12.40pm following the incident.
SIX people have been injured, five of which needed hospital treatment, after a boat exploded.
Early reports suggest fuel poured into the wrong pipe was sparked by the boat’s battery, which ignited causing an explosion.
Ellie Birch, who was at the scene with her family, tweeted: “Boat explosion on River Thames – scariest thing that I’ve seen/heard”.
Local police said the boat was thought to be privately owned and a number of passengers, including children were on board. None of their injuries are thought to be life threatening.
A group of three, two adults and a minor, which was in the boat, was also taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment, the police added.
The force said officers remain at the scene and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the explosion.
“There are now no road closures in place or traffic issues, but residents are advised to avoid the area whilst emergency services continue to work at the scene”.
